Italian Lessons: 8 – Word of the day "Stai Zitto"
Like other italian words gender is important. You’d tell a female “stai zitta”. You’d tell more than one person “state Zitti”
My grandmother grew up in a house with a mother from Abruzzo and a father from Napoli – their family insisted on speaking english in the house. However she did pick up many words, one of which was her dialect saying “shut up”. She’d say “state zitt” (english phonetically would be stut-uh zeet).
